Autumn walks, flower arrangements and our half price autumn sale

The autumn colours are strenthening and there have been plenty geese flying over the nursery this week and the temperatures are still warm although it was quite chilly on Sunday and Monday nights, so a timely reminder to think about moving the most vulnerable tenders under cover and get fleeces and bubble wrap organised. Its also worth taking some cuttings of tenders as back up if you've got somewhere you can keep them frost free.

A seasonal wreath for your door or in the garden, on a fence or as a table decoration made from bits and pieces around the nursery gardens. The wreath itself is made of willow from our fedge and then I used Acer leaves, rosehips, Helianthus 'Lemon Queen' flowers and beech leaves.

Autumn is such a bountiful time for harvesting in the garden and hedgerows. Here are a few ideas of tasty and interesting recipes on the Food page on my Quirky Bird gardener blog page that I've tried that you can try too.
From apples and brambles, to rhubarb, rosehips and medlars and a few christmas ideas too, time to get busy in the kitchen again - Food Page

Second page of August in my journal

Be-calmed - Sometimes the easy looking paintings are the hardest, getting the transition between dark to nothing can be tricky to achieve. This is using my new favourite paint colour, indigo ❤

Staying on the sea theme with the beautiful indigo colour, this time a stormy scene. This one is only 3 inches square, so a wee teeny one, really pleased with it
There will always, eventually be calm after the storm, but the tree always remembers........

It was great to meet up with Betty for a belated birthday lunch, catching up on all the gossip and enjoying some good food in South Queensferry on Friday. Thanks to Isabel for running the nursery and looking after all our customers so I could have a few hours off.

It was a lovely autumn day on Monday so we walked from the house along the Cuddy to Venlaw then up the track to Soonhope, down across the burn and back down the other side of the valley. There was lots of fungi, late harebells and rowan berries. One of the many great walks we can do from the house. We did some shopping along the high street including lunch from Forsyths on the way home. We are so lucky to have such a great High street here in Peebles.

Tuesday and after a garden consultation just next door to Dawyck gardens, I met back up with David and we had a walk around the gardens and lunch in the cafΓ©. Lots of autumn colours starting to appear and excellent soup and scones too.

Another quick week with very mixed weather but the autumn colours are getting stronger and we have finished the propagation which is great, another huge task out the way. There will be odd bits and pieces still to do and some emergency propagation if we think we will run out of something. The tunnels are full and parts of the stock beds too. I’ve been lifting loads of carex which have seeded in the gardens, great for us as that’s stock for next year. We’ve still some potting to do and seeds to collect and now we start the autumn garden jobs which include replanting failed plants, cutting hedges, finishing the strimming and lots more!

Our autumn sale is going well but don’t worry we still have plenty plants left so please do come along and get some great bargains. Bulbs are also selling well but again there is still plenty choice.
See you soon 😊
