Christmas on the Horizon, baking, lights and decorations

Since we got back from our holiday I have been catching up on jobs around the house. I processed the crate of apples I had (stewed apples, apple cake, apple jelly and once I get some more ingredients - apple chutney) and its time............. the mincemeat and Christmas cake are stewing over night. Always nice to be in a warm kitchen on freezing, wet miserable days 😊 FOr as long as I can remember I have used the mincemeat and christmas cake recipes from Dehlia Smiths classic Christmas cook book.

Sorting out the apples

I can't put it off any longer....... its time to get the stock take onto the database and then I can update our website, do the RHS Plant finder entry and see what plants gaps we still need to fill for next year. Fingers crossed for a kind winter and we don't lose any of our young plants and propagation 🤞
I'm not usually surrounded by plants on the dining table, but the bathroom is getting replaced this week so the bathroom jungle is on the table 😃 Maisie was not helping and yes she is blurred because she doesn't stay still and neither was our grand old cat Poppy helping, she decided the new shower screen lying on the floor was the best place to sit 🤦

"Helping"

Not helping!

From a beautifully frosted windscreen one day last week to a lovely sky at the end of the day, it was a cold but dry and very still day to be in the nursery. I was mainly in the nursery tunnels weeding, getting rid of all the pesky weed seedlings that have sprouted. These came from the long grass area next to the stock beds where these plants were sitting until the tunnels were ready. It was warmer in the tunnels so a good place to be on a frosty day along with my “helper”. I enjoyed a lovely take away soup and cheese scone from Whitmuir cafe and also got the last of the bulbs planted and sorted out all the lovely things we will have for sale at our pop up shops at Whitmuir on this coming Sunday 30th Nov and Saturday 6th Dec.

We had a lovely afternoon catching up with our friends Andrew and Linda over lunch at Silver Birch garden centre where everything is Christmas to another level.

Another room done in our cottage renovation, its only taken 5 months! At last our bathroom is finished. I painted it 5 months ago and then it took that long for the plumber to fit us in. Unusually no hold ups or issues and the new bathroom fitting went well and was finished at the beginning of the week, floor laid on Wednesday and David and I got the hooks and towel rails etc up.
So pleased with how clean, bright and cheery the room is now, definitely a bright wake up in the am. So much better than the 30 years of grime we inherited.

Saturday evening and we visited the Beyond Monet immersive experience at Ingleston. Having loved Monet since I studied his paintings in higher art at school it was amazing to see them in motion to music.

We had a good day set up in the Whitmuir building with lots of garden inspired gifts and fun garden gifts for the gardener in your life. David was there with his books signing books for buyers and chatting about his books. You can find him on social media as David Dodds author and on his website.

Back from Whitmuir in time for the Christmas lights switch on in Peebles. Its all go with another busy week ahead I'll be going back to the nursery for a rest in January 🤔

Now i have used a wee bit artistic license here, as the road runs right past the gorgeous blue building, but I wanted it to have a more remote feel, so road be gone.
