A very seasonal blog - Autumn food, walks and flower arranging

As we enter another month the weather has been very mixed with storms and dry sunny days, it continues to be dry tho, very unusual for autumn in Scotland. We are working towards the end of our open season at the nursery...... already!

Here is the last page in my watercolour journal for September this year featuring our walk at Carrifran. I am really pleased with how this has worked out. I am really enjoying doing these small paintings, its really increased the amount of practice I am doing and its paying off and it gives me a nice pictorial diary of life. Now for October, there will be a full on autumn vibe, you have been warned.

All these leaves are from the same tree, Acer platanoides in the woodland garden. The autumn colours are off the scale this year due to the hot summer weather. Plants that are usually yellow have turned brilliant reds and oranges this year. The lanscape and gardens look like they are glowing, even in the dull weather this week. It fills me with joy, I love autumn and all the colours it brings ❤ 🧡💛

The garden at home has shifted into autumn effortlessly and I am loving the autumn colours, the grasses and the late season flowers ❤

Always a huge relief to come in to the nursery after a bad storm to find everything is ok. We've had some horrible starts to the day after a storm before and it's always very stressful. Appart from a fallen trellis and a lot of plants blown about the sales area we are ok.

Some photos of the fabulous autumn colour in the nursery earlier in the week

Autumn brings some extra time to put together lovely textured seasonal displays like this in the nursery. As well as flowers, many other natural stems and leaves work well in a vase. Rose hips, the feather flowers of Miscanthus, fern fronds from Mateuccia struthiopteris, hop flowers and some apples from the nursery gardens come together to create a display that will be long lasting.

First time I've walked along the river in ages! First autumn walk of the season

When the decorative elements of lunch look good enough to eat, loving having a garden to pick from to cook for friends when they visit ❤️

A lovely afternoon with Andrew and Linda, relaxing and catching up. It’s always lovely to have visitors and cook for them. On todays menu:
Sticky roasted chickpeas and carrots on Lebneh
Smoky Sausage cottage pie with kale from the garden and savoy cabbage
Roast pear gypsy tart with garnish from the garden
