The Incredible spring weather continues

Those beautiful blue skies set of all the wonderful spring colour emerging in the nursery gardens. Spring is springing and the warmth of the sun makes us all feel better and has us rolling our sleeves up ready for another gardening year.

Another gardening week begins for us, open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm.
See you soon

Flowers in the nursery gardens

An ode to all the chickens we had over the years

Kalanchoe, a mothers day present 5 years ago,
still going strong, well the plant is, not sure about me 😕

We haven't had this wall paper before, behind the radiator in the bathroom C 1960's 😮

Our alpine troughs and planters came out the tunnel today and got their spring clean, then off to their home at the end of the stock beds. The alpine table in the sales area has also been filled up with all our colourful easy to grow alpines, propagated and grown here in the nursery.

The sales area is full, the wee shop is over flowing with gifty things, the gardens are coming to life and greening up every day.
Open Wednesday to Sunday 10am to 5pm
See you soon 😊

Fiona filled up our wee library at the weekend. Full of second hand gardening books that you can borrow, read then bring back or leave a donation for your book in our charity can or bring a gardening book to leave and swap for one in the wee library.
We've also got old journals from the Botanics, Hardy Plant Society and the Caley free to take away and enjoy - I can't bear to throw them out but will be glad if another gardener enjoys reading them.
Its a great way of passing on gardening books we no longer want and recycling 🙂 and we can raise some money for charity. We collect for Breast cancer care in memory of my sister who died from Breast cancer 8 years ago ❤

Another busy week here at Quercus with some questionable spring weather on some days, but our intrepid customers are not put off and its been great to see the nursery busy, it means all our hard work is paying off.

~ I’m still working through the stock beds, still in S’s, but its all looking tidier. Its that time of year when there are so many other things to do too. Orders to pull, admin, getting alpine and herb planters out of the tunnel, tidied and out into the herb garden and top terrace. The sales area needs its weekly tidy and re-stock and making sure everything is kept watered. I also finished bringing all the herbs over from the farm tunnel, tidying, potting, propagating, feeding and top dressing and putting them into the new tunnel. If the weather warms up next week I’ll get herbs out into the sales area.

~ Isabel has almost finished the grass stock beds and they are looking great, with new plants potted, all labelled, top dressed and fed.

~ The gardens are greening up and the daffodils are looking fab. Its so good to see all the colour coming through after winter.

~ Fiona has potted up lots of seedlings, many of which had seeded into other pots, a great and easy way to add to the stock. The second new tunnel, much to David’s despair as it doesn’t even have its cover on yet.

~ Meanwhile David has completed all the water system upgrades and fixes which is great as the weather warms up. He and Dan installed the irrigation into the new tunnel which is another step forward and means this tunnel is complete.

At last we've got the photo cards for the stock beds printed, very behind on this job this year. But there are now 240 shiny new cards coming to the stock beds this week.

A lovely day in my own garden, pottering away and getting some tasks done, some I’ve been planning since we moved in. Last week I built the stone raised bed for my fountain and today we got it in place. I’m so excited to create this wee corner and once my new greenhouse is in place it will make a wee shadfy courtyard. I’ve planted an epimedium from my collection on either side of the fountain which will soften the stone as they grow. I brought the fountain from my last garden and have moved it around for 11 years until now and I’ve finally got it up and working. Originally I brought it back from Belgium in the back of the car as well as three boys and all our luggage :D IWe got rid of another load of stuff to the tip and I sorted out all my auricula primulas, fed and top dressed them and moved them out from under the roof over hang where they’ve been over winter. The grass got its first cut and I sorted some things out in the potting shed. All in all a satisfying day with coffee and lunch outside.

A simple vase of flowers

Another glorious weather day off 😊 Maisie and Poppy were enjoying the weather, out in the front and gardens with me. I got all my houseplants re-potted and fed, we finally got the nursery point of sale cards reprinted, all 240 of them, an annual job we are behind with for some reason. Lunch out side too, back to work tomorrow.
