All the Colours of Summer Gardens

The stream garden in the nursery doing what I hoped it would become when I created it 9 years ago. Lots of fabulous foliage with lots of texture and colour and the water appearing and disappearing underneath but you can hear it trickling away in there somewhere.

All the colours in the front garden, sometimes its hard to believe its only just over a year old! The great thing about this garden is its so different from the nursery gardens so it allows me to experiment, grow plants I cant at the nursery and help customers who have smaller town gardens as well as more spacious gardens like the nursery.

Ligularia and Alliums

This week we bring you some highlights from the scented garden 😍

Well that was another week with lots done in the nursery and gardens and lots of lovely customers. We won't mention the lack of sun and the cold weather making it feel more like October than July! Ok I just did 😕 I've been potting lots of plants to grow on for next year, we've been making plans for the new area behind the office, I planted out the last of the annuals, they may or may not do anything, I'm not holding my breath..... Here are some of the things we got up to this week:
- From 6 common spotted orchids in the wild flower meadow last year we have over 60 this year, this makes me so happy.
- We had Rachel in helping for a day, it was raining all day but she got lots of potting done and it was great to have some company in the covered area.
- Isabel spend a wet day in the tunnel potting all the cuttings ready to be potted and then two days in the stock beds. She finished the shade stock beds and is finishing off C's and A's, only half a bed to go of the annual stock bed tidy!
- A very large frog in the tunnel this week.
- Fiona has been working through all the seedlings ready for potting, this should be finished by the end of the week. They are now tucked up in the tunnel to grow on for next year.
- I completely failed to get the Clematis tied in earlier in the year on the office. They have flopped all over the plants underneath. So today David gave me a hand to put wires up on the walls which will make it easier to keep them under control.

Some loose and semi-abstract plant studies 🙂

Isn’t it ridiculous when you feel lucky to have a dry day off two weeks in a row in summer! Such is the way of things this year, so off we went exploring another walk in the borders today. This time a 7 mile circular walk from Kelso along the Teviot to Roxburghe Viaduct and then back along the other side on the disused railway. A stop for a picnic with views of Floors castle and the borders. Great views from the top of the viaduct and the wild flowers were incredible, so much colour everywhere. The sun was shining and it was warm, tho it did cloud up towards the end but we avoided the rain showers. We ended up at Floors castle for coffee and cake and a wander around the gardens, more on that later.
