The plants think it's spring, I wish the weather did!

Its been lovely to be open again at the nursery, chatting to our customers and seeing them enjoy the nursery and gardens. The weather hasn't been the best but at least its not snowing or frozen, always looking for the positives. It would be lovely to have some sunny days. We are working on spring cleaning the stock beds, starting this years round of propagation and potting u the cuttings taken last year.

Yellow and turquoise still life – its ages since I’ve had time to paint so we’ll not talk about the lemons that look like yellow sheep. I am pleased with the glittery paint on the vase though.

Looking good in the nursery gardens, plants are growing, and the nursery gets a little greener every day.

Heathers are now in stock and brightening up the sales area. There are a variety of spring /summer flowering and autumn / winter flowering and lots of lovely foliage colour too. Great for the bees, plant in containers or in borders.

Some days are chocolate orange cupcake days

We have a new growing project for Borders Forest Trust this year. Ajuga pyramidalis is only known to grow in one place in the Scottish Borders and in Westmoreland. I managed to get 20 rooted pieces off the two plants Philip brought in yesterday. They will go into the polytunnel to grow on and hopefully we will get plenty more from these later in the year.

Isabel, David and I were going potty this getting the latest pot delivery into the nursery in time for the weekend. We are loving all the colours ❤️ Isabel loves the dug egg blue conservatory pots and I love the two tone blues which are new to us for this year in 3 sizes. Maisie is undecided as long as she doesnt get put in one again 🤣Also new to us are the fabulous terracotta bowls, 30cm diameter and perfect for alpines or bulbs. We have again the ribbed terracotta pots we had last year and a selection of standard terracotta pots and saucers.

Thank you everyone who visited on our first weekend of the season and our first week open, lovely to chat and catch up with folk. Fiona finished sowing all the perennial seeds, many of which are gathered from the gardens here in the nursery. I think there were just under 100 pots of seeds sown! I finished spring cleaning the first stock bed and managed to create some space for some new varieties which we potted up and put out. Only 11 stock beds to go..........🤦‍♀️ these plants are spoiled 😍

Great rainbow over the nursery this afternoon...... no pot of gold though..... I checked, it would have
been handy to pay for our new polytunnels

In our porch, the brief blue sky was much appreciated as are the many many flowers on the lemon tree, over 40 at the last count, I'm still pollinating them with a paint brush, determined to get more lemons. 10 green bottles, a donkey tail in the macrame hanger made by Natasha ❤ and a collection of bottles and wee pots 🙂

  1. Looks lovely. We are still in the grip of winter in Finland, it will probably take until May to get to the state your garden is in!
