Winter weather and making the most of our time off

Last week when I popped into the nursery today to check it over what with all the very low temps (-7C last night, again!) and the snow it was definitely had a Narnia vibe about it, bitterly cold but very pretty. We knocked the snow off the shade tunnel and checked everything then off for a walk at Leadburn Community woodland which looked equally fetching in its snowy coat.

A freezing but beautiful walk at Leadburn community woodland after checking the nursery.

A lovely relaxing Sunday morning visiting the Makers craft fair in peebles buying some christmas presents and chatting to folk I know, then a wander along the High street to visit the newly opened Cosy Kitchen cafe next to the Cook shop in the old town. The food is fab and service excellent and I'm not just saying that because I know the wonderful folks running it, I genuinely mean it, please do go and support Sarah, Linda and Elle on their new adventure ❤ Then a walk along the river in the snow, but it is a degree or two warmer!

I am delighted to have another article published in the Northern Leaves Autumn journal. A seasonal chat about plants we can grow for winter interest in the garden.

A set of winter postcards

Into the nursery catching up with some bits n pieces today including sorting out all the seeds we've gathered over the year from the nursery gardens. This is a great way of propagating new stock and means we are growing plants from our own healthy plants. After picking, the seeds are hung in paper bags in the office to dry out. Then in December I get the heater on in the office and some podcasts and spend a few hours sorting them out and putting them into packets. In spring they will be sown in the polytunnel to create stock in the next year or two and the growing cycle starts again.

A walk I haven't done for a long time.... round Linlithgow loch, my old childhood playground then tea with Betty and Daniel. always good to catch up and a great takeaway too. As a child we were allowed to walk all the way down to the loch, fish for sticklebacks from the bridge and build gang huts on the half submerged willows along the back of the loch. Those were the days of an outdoor childhood and freedom.
