The nursery 2023 season draws to a close for winter

The weather is certainly changing, and with it the tone and tempo of the gardens and nursery changes too. Growth slows and stops, plants start to die back ready for the winter cold, the fish in the pond are less active and the pace of works becomes more relaxed. The pressure is off, there's still lots to do, but there isn't the pressure of spring and summer to get all the propagation and potting done and to keep the nursery and gardens tidy.

One more day until we finish for winter. It's been a busy crazy year again in the nursery with ups and downs along the way and more to come. David, Fiona and Isabel have been fantastic helping get all the work done, serving customers and keeping me almost sane
🙄😆 I couldn't have done it without them ❤️

For the last month we've been working on renovating the spare bedroom / Davids office and a home for all our books. All 30 boxes of them
🤦‍♀️🙄😆 we build a set of floor to ceiling shelves, which wasn't easy as no wall was straight in any direction ❤️ old houses. 5 coats of paint later here's a sneak peak of our library. The other half of the room coming soon once we've moved everything back in. Huge thanks to David for all his hard work building those awesome shelves ❤️

Well that's all Folks for 2023! Can you believe it’s the end of October already? I can't. Thank you so much to all our customers who visited the nursery and gardens this year, who purchased from us and all the support and positive encouragement through the year. Its all very much appreciated. We are off for a much needed break and then will be back and forward doing all the winter jobs needing done. As you know I'll be on our social media chatting about plants and gardens.
Huge thank you's to Fiona and Isabel for all their work, enthusiasm and great company this year. We got masses more done in the nursery, so much propagation and another new garden
I'd especially like to thank Viki Junkshopantiques for helping keep both of us sane (ish) while running our businesses, being business owners and the ups and downs of life in general.
And of course David who manages to fit in the nursery amongst his own business and flying
Take care for now
Big thanks from Rona and David x

What a difference a day makes. 99% of the stuff that had come out the spare "storage" bedroom sorted and dealt with. We can now move about the house without doing a side shuffle all the time 🙄
And we got our most recent renovation room finished, pictures hung, blind up. So happy with this room, it was worth all the blood, sweat, tears and sweary words 🤐
Video - when we moved in, the junk room and finished ❤️

A walk around spoon wood this afternoon. The autumn colours are incredible this year, the dull weather didn't capture them well, we have been lacking in cold crisp sunny autumn days, its just been wet.

No the garden isn't dressed up for halloween 😄 but wrapped up for winter. It was great to finally get a dry day in my garden, its been a while. Tender plants wrapped for winter, grass cut (final cut hopefully), climbers tied in, my alpine troughs shuffled a bit closer together so the last one fits in now the summer house has been installed ( thanks David for your help moving them ❤️) I know you hate them 🙄 spent some time working out what I'm going to do landscaping wise round the summer house and how I'm going to lay out the storage work area behind it. Definitely somewhere for the compost heaps to go! Our summer house got installed on Friday, it was a busy week! The final piece of the garden makeover. I can't wait to sort it out and it will give us some much needed space at our wee hoose.

So good to get back to painting after a month and a half of not. Well not this kind of painting any how 🙄. It always gets a bit messy at the end lol. Good to use the new pallet and brush stand I got from Jamie and Natasha for my birthday ❤️

After a month and half of no painting, I'm really pleased with this abstract winter river scene. Brushes, credit card and four colours

Autumn, no wonder its my favourite season. These colours are just fabulous, no need for any editiing when Mother nature does it so well
