"She had only to stand in the orchard, to put her hand on a little crab tree ....

... and look up at the apples, to make you feel the goodness of planting and tending and harvesting at last." -  Willa Cather

You'll never look at Cornus berries the same way again

The predominant colours in the gardens are now yellows, browns, golds, creams, reds with highlights of late pinks, purples and more when you look closely. The grasses are in their full glory as they flower and some turn a beautiful golden yellow. The sales area is all but empty as we tuck everything away for winter and wind down.

There's some fabulous fungi in the nursery gardens at the moment. All colours, shapes and sizes, I'm not even going to attempt to name them......

We've had all the weathers in the past week, first frost of the season, rain, more rain, very windy conditions ......... I think I prefer the frost 🤦 its certainly more picturesque! Here are some frosty photos i took last week, finally getting around to sharing them.
I hope no one has suffered too much damage in the last coupe of days of storms x

Sunday mornings before going to work look like this, 24 shelves, 2nd coat of paint 🤦‍♀️

Another autumn task done, emptying the leaf mould onto one of the woodland borders. This leaf mould has been on the go for four years, and as its beech leaves, they take a while to break down. All the woodland borders will need a top up of compost as they are still new and have settled over the summer so this was a good start as we needed to remove the current leaf bin. The border looks really good and plants who's roots had been exposed are now at a good depth again.

After spending my two days off finishing the painting of the current room renovation, I'm going back to work for a rest! But it is now ready for the carpets getting laid tomorrow and then we can get everything back in the room and reclaim the rest of the house where we've spent a month shuffling round furnature and a cardboard box mountain. In a small house that's challenging! Nipped out for a Maisie walk this afternoon along the river and some autumn colour.
