All in a days work, ok half a day, approx 6 to 7 cubic metres of compost turned from each bin into the next one along. Great excersise and a satisfying job done. This gets done every 6 months and now I have an empty bin to fill up again. A good thing as the mid summer garden tidy is due and there will be lots of chopping back of plants. Pleasantly surprised at how easily I found it since losing all that weight and getting fitter. Waiting on a delivery and making good use of the time until it arrived.
What a difference a month makes! This is one of the biggest projects we will do outside at home. The huge leylandii hedge had not been maintained and was half dead, it was so wide we now have parking for at least one car or two wee ones! Keen to use local businesses we got in Calum of CF Tree Surgeons to remove the leylandii and a large conifer, no job is straight forward and he trouble-shooted all the issues efficiently including arranging to get all the roots dug out with a mini digger. David made a grand job of the fence and gate meaning Maisie mouse could be running about in her garden again and give us and our neighbours some privacy back. This week we've had another local business Equip2save Property maintenance LTD in to level up the area outside to create our parking area. Using sleepers and infill, finishing off with planings we now have off street parking which is great, allowing us to park at least one of our cars off road. The guys were efficient and great to have on site finishing the job in a day and a half, considering the area sloped in every direction. Cant wait for the trees and climbers I've planted to grow and soften the fence
We only have two of these discounted large bowls left! Thank you to everyone who has bought one so far. They are reduced to £40 from £60. The two left are gorgeous colours. Lets find them new homes this weekend
In our front garden this week, its hard to believe these beds have only been plants 4 months. Loving the colours coming together.
I always liken creating gardens to art, what one person loves in a garden, another might hate. Its the same in art, one persons passion might be Lowrie and his matchstick men, or Monet and his waterlilies or the Renaissance art of Leonardo da Vinci and another's might be Salvador Dali. I have an eclectic taste in art, a bit like my taste in music! I do love the impressionist and have always wanted a Monet bridge of my own and I seem to have inserted some Van Gogh irises along the way......
A day in the garden on Monday finishing off the new border in the back garden, yay! I put in the brick edge (helpful for mowing the grass and keeping the edge neat) all these bricks were reclaimed from various places in the front and back garden. 10 bags of compost and 10 of top soil have improved the soil in this border which seems to be 50% leylandii roots and 50% river stones! Lastly all the new shrubs and some of the perennials planted. More will be coming home to be planted soon. I am so pleased with how its come together and can’t wait for the plants to fill out and grow and give both us and out neighbours some privacy back and create an interesting all year round border.
As well as garden improvements on Monday we also had Ian come for a visit. Great to catch up and a lovely meal in The Crown at night. Tuesday and a Maisie and me day while David was away flying so after errands in the high street we went for a walk along the river and back through the woods. An afternoon house cleaning, garden tidying and catching up on loads of wee tasks once the torrential rain came on in the afternoon and lasted all evening, happy plants and one less thing for me to do and my car towed away to get fixed, lets see how many pounds that is
