....... on a single day. No man can heed all of these anniversaries; no man can ignore all of them." - Aldo Leopold
The exotics collection in the nursery is certainly enjoying this incredible weather. These plants are all part of my own personal plant collection but because I have my greenhouse and the polytunnels at the nursery they all live in the nursery now so they can get the winter protection they require. I put them out here as a display so that all our customers and visitors can enjoy them too.
A double whammy today Daniel has left college and was presented with an award of excellence today. He now heads off to his new job full time at Edinburgh University. Jamie also got the news he passed his MSC today, 18 months of hard work on top of working and doing up his and Natasha's home have paid off.
Looking good in the nursery gardens not much social media chat this last week. The heat has wiped me out, hay fever has kicked in and trying to keep our plants watered and alive in this heat has added a whole other level of stress and work as our water level gets lower and lower. We desperately need rain. |

Shed refurb complete – I love my potting shed. I hummed and hawed about keeping the shed. It housed loads of stuff after we moved here for months until we got the attic sorted. But its such a good quality shed and one the same would cost a small fortune these days. So I decided to give it a make-over inside and out. Vintage meets practical and it makes a great focal point at the end of the patio

I've genuinely had enough of this weather. 28C is way too hot for me and working out in it every day is making me ill. On top of the stress of trying to keep all the plants at the nursery watered and not dying, enough is enough. Send rain, cause damned if im throwing out more dead plants due to the heat after having to throw out £hundreds worth of plants due to it being so cold in the winter. I could cry.
Clouds in the sky, clouds in the sky, never have I been so happy to see clouds in the sky
Wats in the box? A couple of deliveries, a plant from my greenhouse at the nursery for the seive feature and basil from Tesco for the herb planter Some ferns and an Epimedium to finish off the shade plant collection, a succulent for the sieve feature and whats not to like about a nursery that sends lovehearts in their delivery

Some highlights from the nursery gardens this week. The Baptisa australis and Amsonia I did not expect the survive the past very cold winter. They are some of the experimental plants I am trying on our wet (normally) clay soil. I have planted them in the driest border we have and it seems to be working

Day off at home today getting on with the back garden. David was fencing (the wooden boundery kind) hopefully it will be finished this week. I was doing all sorts of random things including putting up the new screening on the short fence and then started working on that border, root of an old berberis dug out but the soil is full of roots (the leylandii hedge that was removed and more stones ) I also finished the trim round the shed windows. 2 more trips to the tip, we are slowly getting rid of all the rubbish and debris. A walk up tot eh high street for fish suppers, eaten at the river side then a walk home along the river

From the first photo from the house sale particulars last year to today in the front garden, these borders are filling out nicely despite the very hot dry weather. Can't wait to see them maturing over time

Oh I hope you get some rain! This is heartbreaking.
ReplyDeleteHere in Finland it's also been very dry and hot, but finally yesterday it rained first in the morning and then twice during the day! It got significantly cooler too and more rain is in the forecast for tomorrow. What a joy. I really hope your weather turns also!
Your boys are doing well, hardworking young men, you are proud of them I'm sure!
I've never been so happy to see rain, I went out and danced in it in the back garden in bare feet :D We've had a lot of rain since then, which is a relief, and more like normal temperatures for a Scottish summer which I am happy about. Hope you have had enough rain to help compensate for the hot weather.
