"By the time one is eighty, it is said, there is no longer a tug of war ....

.....in the garden with the May flowers hauling like mad against the claims of the other months.  All is at last in balance and all is serene.  The gardener is usually dead, of course." -  Henry Mitchell, The Essential Earthman

Shall I mention the weather? Probably not, I think we are all fed up with it. We desperately need decent rain too. But enough of weather chat. The nursery gardens are exploding into life, I'm sure there is new growth every day.

Swallows are back

We've lots of lovely new trees, shrubs and conifers in stock, the shrub tables are full! Evergreens, coloured foliage, flowers, twisty stems, tall ones, short ones, wide ones, narrow ones. There is something for everyone whatever your size of garden.

I treated myself to a take away lunch from the Whitmuir cafe today, the quiche was excellent as were the salads. All the food is fab as are the cakes, all thanks to Sarah the chef and her great food combinations 😍 Do visit the cafe and enjoy the great food and coffee all served by the lovely cafe staff.

Oh and our cowslips in the nursery gardens are the best they have ever been.

Behind the scenes post - Now that the weather has finally decided to warm up its time to get all my seasonal summer display plants out from the polytunnel and greenhouse after their winter break.
This then gave me room to spring cleaning the greenhouse. All the tender display plants have moved out into the display area for summer. The plants that will be for sale have been moved out from under the benches into the space I’ve made where they can get better watered and more sun. Everything has been fed and top dressed with fresh compost. Here’s to summer.
These are all my own personal plant collection which now lives at the nursery as I don't have anywhere to keep them over winter at home now. But it means my lovely customers get to enjoy them too 😃
P.s who was happy to see all that rain late this afternoon? Proper heavy watering rain, it is very much needed and I wont deny I did a wee happy rain dance as we left to go home 😃

A sepia sunset

Tuesdays are usually Maisie and me days, as David is away gliding. What glorious weather to be off so we went for a walk at Traquair, took some books to the charity shop, spent a lot of the day in the garden, tidying, cutting the grass, cleaning my neglected car, throwing a tennis ball and relaxing. Maisie would live out here with her tennis ball if she could. Dinner in the garden when David got home this evening.

I'm really enjoying doing these simple landscapes,
we've all walked on a beach by a loch in the highlands like this
