Another year opens for Quercus, let the busy times roll

After a long day on Monday and a late arrival home, 2.30 am, I spent the day on Tuesday filling the wee shop powered by coffee. Lots of lovely items, favourites and new. Also with our new long wished for slab floor, so no more squelch or mud or uneven surfaces as you browse the shelves.

The sales area, it's filling up, so many fab plants to tempt you with, it's great to see plants beginning to grow, spring is springing 😃 We'll be getting the grasses table and the shade tunnel filled up over the next three days and then we open on Saturday, its been a busy quick few weeks getting everything ready for our lovely customers visiting.
See you soon 😃

Summer meadow

Conifers have landed! So many fabulous colours for year round interest, most are dwarf varieties but there are a few taller in amongst them. My favourite is Pinus wallichiana, a truly spectacular pine.

We are all ready to open the gates to our customers after our winter break, exciting 😃 We are looking forward to helping and chatting to customers old and new. The sales area is stuffed full and the stock beds are available to browse and buy from too. I’ll be starting their spring tidy up next. The wee shop is full and we have peat free compost for sale and a selection of pots. As always if you need advice, please do ask, we are always happy to advise and help. After a wander around the nursery gardens and some shopping you can head down to the café for a warm up. Hot chocolate, coffee or tea, soup or specials and an amazing selection of fab cakes. The fire is on and the food is excellent and the staff always happy to help. Viki will be open with her amazing Junkshopantiques shop where there is an ever changing selection of amazing antiques, textiles and curios and great banter. Pop into the Whitmuir gift shop for lots of great gift ideas or treat yourself. There is lots coming to the farm soon – more animals, kits play area, walks and so much more.
Below are a few things to look for when you visit the nursery.
See you soon

Bonfire smoke and sun

A huge thank you to all our customers who came out at the weekend as we opened for the 2023 season and all our new social media followers - hi. It was lovely to see you all and see folk exploring the gardens and enjoying our nursery experience. Big thanks also to everyone that visited the cafe, Junkshop antiques and the gift shop. Its great to be part of a lovely group of businesses.
Here's to a great year of gardening for us all. Meanwhile I'm now going to start the great stockbed tidy, potting and start a list of all the propagation needing done this year.
See you soon, we are open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm 😃

Crocus 'Snow Bunting'

Spring is springing despite the weather coming our way this week. The walk up to the doctors surgery on Monday was full of crocus and Cornus mas alongside the river and who knew those scrubby huge shrubs were cornus mas, but now they are doing their spring thing and covered in tiny yellow flowers. Was pondering its been over 25 year since I could last walk to a doc surgery from the house and not had to drive. Also walked to the hairdresser in the afternoon, saving my fitness and the planet, more benefits of living in a town, who’d have thought. A visit to Biggar late afternoon to look at some stone, a walk along the old railway line, been ages since we walked there. Then somehow we ended up in the chippy in Biggar for tea, both are as bad as each other lol. Back to work on Wednesday for a rest 😃

Tuesday and another busy day. The flooring got fitted in the wee hall and that's it finished, lunch at Coltmans and then to the dentist. After that we went and collected our trailer and picked up some stone we'd kindly been given by a friend to use in the garden at home.

An line and wash spanish street scene, got a bit too heavy with the left side, it should be like the right side, much lighter. Over all happy with the perspective and the painting 🙂

Back to work on Wednesday for a rest after another busy day off. The flooring got laid in the wee hall, we walked up to the High Street to Coltmans for a lovely lunch, then I was at the dentist then we went to the nursery, picked up the trailer, went to Biggar to collect some stone for our own garden, unloaded, trailer back to the nursery and then home to collapse in a heap Lol. Looking at the forecast don't think there will be much happening at work this week!

    1. Saila, thanks, can't believe its that time already! Where does the time go, typically the weather has taken a turn for the worst and we are back in snow and low temperatures. We love our hall, its so much better and a usable space, always useful in a small house :)
