As Autumn becomes Winter

We have new gift vouchers, just in time for Christmas. They can be purchased on our website and are sent out free of charge. The perfect gift for the gardener in your life. Vouchers can be used to buy plants, pots or any of the items in our wee shop when we are open between March and October.

Don't worry if you have an old voucher still to spend, they are still valid.

Explored a new walk from the house, along the Tweed and up through Southpark woods and back over the Neidpath tunnel entrance. Always adventuring in my own small way. I saw a couple of squirrels, grays, I don't think reds come this far west in the Tweed valley sadly. A couple of steep bits to climb up but rewarded with the lovely bright beach leaves in the sun at the top of the hill.

Its important to get your ducks in a row!

We've launched our Christmas shop on our website. You can follow the link below. I've selected gift ideas from our wee shop which are also postable. These items and more will also be available from our pop up Christmas shop at the Whitmuir Christmas events. More on those nearer the time.
I've also put up some of my christmas cards, these are prints of my festive watercolour paintings on A6 cards and come with an envelope. I'm a wee bit nervous about putting them up and I hope you like them 🙂

The devils in the detail - got the skirting boards in the 2 halls painted today so that's those rooms totally finished - Yay. Great to get our pictures unpacked and on the walls. Some of these haven't seen the light of day since we left our last home Easter Mosshat 8 years ago! Somethings old, somethings new.........

Thanks to our customers generous donations for books from our wee library, for willow rods and loose change we have raised £63.00 in the collection can. I've just sent it off to Breast cancer Now today, which is appropriate in the week which sees the 5th anniversary of my sister Mhairi's passing. Breast Cancer Now (or breast cancer care as they were originally) were a great support to Mhairi through her diagnosis and treatment. With our help these valuable charities can keep supporting women and men through their breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.
I live in hope one day we wont lose our loved ones to cancer and prevention and cure will be available to all. Having lost three close and much loved members of my family, its all to clear how much these charities need support and funding in their current work and for the future to finding both prevention and cure of this awful disease.
In total this year with our two open days and collection can we have raised just under £800 for Breast Cancer Now, thank you so much to everyone that helped us achieve that xx

A busy day off, car into the garage to get a couple of issues looked at resulting in a very large quote to get it road worthy 😭 2 runs to the tip to get rid of DIY and garden rubbish.

More progress in the front garden, couple of hours lifting more slabs and digging over the ground underneath 💪 I will win the grey hard slab battle of the front garden. Cannot wait to lose the hand rail which will open up the whole garden then I can sort the path and soften the whole are with plants 😃 Still got the row of slabs along the top and side of this area to move but I need my bolster chisel and hammer from the nursery to deal with the concrete, then I can get planting 😃

Adam came to visit and we had a lovely dinner in the Crown on the high street, great to catch up with him. Another advantage of living in the town is they can get the bus down to visit.

Back into the back garden to remove all the ivy growing over the ground behind the greenhouse, leaves lifted and the path to the gate cleared and swept.
This video could also be called gardening with a jack russell! 🙄

A foggy morning walk for me and Maisie today. Investigated another walk through South park woods, following the path we've explored the past twice but turning right instead of left this time to see where that path goes. Still adventuring in my own small way 🙂

Poppy went to visit the vet having registered her at the Peebles vet, all good there, she's in good shape for an old mog, back for a second jag just before christmas and that's her sorted for a while 😃

I've finished putting the stock take onto the database so I'll be able to update the website plant list pages soon and get them up to date 🙂
If you are starting to think about christmas gifts, there's no escaping it now! We have items on our website nursery christmas shop 🎅

My goodness what’s this weather like! Feel like we are living in a ball of cotton wool with all this fog and its so cold, we got too used to that warm autumn 😕 We went to Mainstreet trading for some book browsing, Christmas shopping and a lovely lunch, dog friendly too, so a Maisie bonus. Two new pairs of glasses collected to help with my worsening lazy left eye ☹ We went for a walk at Old Melrose on the way home where there is also an antiques shop, café and second hand book shop. We will go back in better weather when we can actually see the view 🙄
Next task is to find the house stopcock so we can replace the shower in the bathroom, its not where the plan says it should be………….
The last pictures are from the DDAL Christmas get together on Monday night, normally dinner in a restaurant where its difficult to socialise. So this year it was in the briefing room at David’s gliding club over at Portmoak. Food and a chance to try the glider simulator and Graeme’s dead thing quiz. A good night was had by all and much easier to be sociable.

  1. Looks nice and I envy you for being able to to digging - the whole Finland is covered with snow and it's -10 degrees even here in the very south! Winter came so suddenly. You have quite an amount of slabs there! And they're big and heavy, phooh.
I love all the details in your hall, looks absolutely lovely!

    1. Hi Saila, we've gone from a very mild autumn to -1- to -15C which is very cold for scotland. I am expecting a lot of plant loss at the nursery, as thats much much colder than we are used to and for quite a few days now too. The slabs are going to the nursery where we have a few places they can be used, which is great, heavy to move though, will be glad once that jobs done :)
