"Just before the death of flowers........

..... And before they are buried in snow,
There comes a festival season
When nature is all aglow."

Staff appraisals today. Main complaints were not enough snacks and not enough opportunities to meet and greet customers and be spoiled and not enough walks.

This is their time - Ornamental grasses really do add a lot to the garden and borders and it’s worth considering them when you are planning a border or looking to fill spaces. They provide varying colours, textures and movement, softening spaces between other plants and make wonderful accent plants. They look great with almost any plant and give long seasons of interest from new growth in spring to old flower stems left on through winter.
You can read much more about them in my blog: Ornamental grasses

Sunshine and rainbows after all that rain. A good first sale day at the nursery, only a month until we close for winter. I really can't believe we're at this time of year already! Still not long until we get a holiday after another super busy year for both our businesses 😊

It's been a funny year weather wise and it's no surprise that it has an effect on plants one way or another. The Persicaria amplexicaulis 'Alba' in the nursery gardens has done this but none of the other Persicarias in the nursery have. A large amount of the flowers are divided at the ends and some are flat and divided like fasciation.
Have any of your plants done anything unusual this year?

Sunset from our garden

David had more work to do at Saddell on the Mull of Kintyre today, so Maisie and I went along for the day and to take a share of the driving (me, not Maisie, tho I wouldnt put anything past her!) Its a 4,5 hour journey both ways. By the time we got there the rain was on, so Maisie and I had a very blustery walk along the beach while David worked. We found a path through the woods, which was more sheltered and lush with ferns and mosses and chestnuts. Once the work was done we stopped in Tarbert for some lunch in a cafe with the best cafe loo ever 😃 before wandering home in the worsening weather! Over the Rest and Be thankful with landslide warning signs flashing 😕 Stopped at the Ardinglass Tree shop and of course bought some plants for the new woodland garden in the nursery 😃 cause I cant help it lol.

Had a lovely day with Becky on Tuesday when she came to visit. A lovely lunch in the Crown and a wander along the high Street before going back to the house to tire Maisie out. Makes such a difference being on a bus route the kids can use to visit 😃
