Well June is marching on, as is the year, how can we almost be half way through the year? Crazy. In the nursery we've been doing more propagation to make sure stock levels are good for next year, the compost heaps have been turned and I'm now tidying the shade stock beds, so lots of progress everywhere. The gardens are looking fantastic, even if I say so myself.
Pelargoniums are now in the sales area. These are propagated from my own collection and include some unusual varieties. There are scented, species, coloured leaf varieties and some interesting cultivars. Sold in 9cm pots and £3.50 each.
If you've visited the nursery you will probably have noticed our collection of old tools in the covered area where you pay for your purchases. We've collected these over the years from various antique shops, farm sales and reclamation yards. Some have even been gifted by customers. David put up our latest additions last weekend. These were a long handled hedge slasher that belonged to my late uncle and a teeny tiny sack barrow I bought from Viki at Junkshopantiques I'm sure all these old tools could tell a tale or two if they could talk! I love the worn wooden handles, they just don't make em so good any more
I won't deny I'm exhausted, life is a continuous roller coaster of high drama, stress and good moments. Isnt everyones right? But, i am really done with the endless stress. One thing we can be happy and excited about at the moment is now we can talk about getting to keep our nursery at Whitmuir and the new owner takes over at the end if June. We've met them several.times and are optimistic about the future and looking forward to working along side them going forward and growing Quercus into the future.
Meanwhile yet again we are having to move house, after 2 years renting here at Traquair, for the second time our landlord wants their house back to sell. The downside to renting, there is no security or longevity. We had planned to buy this house but thats not to be sadly. But onwards and upwards to a new adventure somewhere else. Watch this space...........
A couple of days away on Monday and Tuesday was exactly what we needed, to relax, see somewhere different, and de-stress. The weather was brilliant giving it even more of a holiday vibe, the hotel was excellent and we discovered new places. On Monday we stopped at Corbridge for a picnic next to the river then on to Brimham Rocks, which David has visited a lot and I've never been. That ridiculous dog needed fitted with a parachute...... fearless! What an amazing place and the views over the Vale of York were excellent. Ice cream and rock climbing before heading to the White Bear Hotel in Masham. If you are ever visiting this part of the world, stay here, its fab. The staff are lovely, food is excellent and rooms very comfortable, and dog friendly too! Right next to the Black Sheep brewery coincidentally. A relaxing evening with good food and drinks in the sun, perfect.
Tuesday - Hutt Himalayan Garden and Sculpture Park - I'd never heard of this garden before and it was just down the road from where we were staying so we decided to go and explore. What an amazing place with lots of sculptures, 3 ponds, woodland and gardens planted on the steep slopes below the house. We were too late to see the rhododendrons which must have been an amazing sight. There is a lovely cafe that serves amazing food, I had the gardeners platter, would be rude not too! All dog friendly too then meandering home via Mainsgill, the A66 and Moffat.
