Spring weaves a gown of green to clad

The mountain height and wide-spread field,

O when wilt thou, my native land,

In all thy glory stand revealed?"

- Ilia Chavchavadze, Spring

Wednesday was a day of two halves, arriving in a blizzard at work and then sunshine and blue skies in the afternoon! Thank goodness for poly tunnels for potting up in (Rory) and the covered area (me) Hundreds more cuttings potted to grow on and more of the stock beds tidied. The temperatures were forecast to be very cold so I fleeced a lot of plants before I came home. Fingers crossed for no damage. Brrrrrrrr.

Brrrrrrrrrrrr, Thursday and winter is back! Snow showers, awful road conditions on the way to the nursery, hail, snow and sunshine through the day. Its a good thing we have plenty of work to do what ever the weather. A bonfire, lifting all the fallen branches in what we hope will be the woodland garden, weeding in the polytunnel and sorting out plants to go into sales and barrowing up the delivery of water plants. Sam, Rory and I kept warm and kept busy. Roll on the warmer weather at the weekend.

Hellebore 'Pink Lady'

Narcissus 'Tete a Tete'

Primula denticulata

Rhubarb

Xanthoria parietina

Friday and another cold start to the day so Sam was potting up and tidying grasses in the poly tunnel and I was sorting out the water plant delivery and tidying plants in the stock beds. Water plants are in stock just in time for the weekend. We have waterlilies, oxygenators, marginals, aquatic compost and water plant baskets. Lots of choice and advice if you need it.

Autumn in the birch woods

We have a barrow dog in its chariot again

There was much going on in the bottom terrace gardens on Saturday - including a lot of pond gazing (even Maisie) ............ and a sneaky peak of exciting developments at the end of the bottom terrrace.........

Poppies - can you guess I like poppies and birch trees?

Abstract sunset on the river estuary

Sunday and a day planting

Come walk with me,
Along the bottom terrace
And see what you can see,
A new garden, the last on this terrace
A topiary garden
A jardin topiaire français to be
Inspired by my travels
It will take a few years
But the fun we'll have clipping
And snipping lots of shapes
😊
The chippings are all from the fallen felled tree last autumn and the box plants I've been growing on for years for exactly this type of garden.
Quite different from the rest of the nursery gardens, but i do love a formal garden too ❤️

- 8 tons of wood chip
- 12m x 5m ground cover fabric
- 56 box plants
- 3 Ilex crenata
- 6 Lonicera 'Baggesons Gold'
- 1 bench
- 1 ridiculous puppy
- 3 members of staff
= one finished garden ❤
The last 3 photos are my inspiration. Jardins de Marqueyssac is an incredible garden in the Dordogne area of France. Its position on top of cliffs overlooking the Dordogne River is stunning. These are very few flowers, the garden is mainly topiary, including the greys of Santolina and Lavander. It was an incredible visit there in 2013 and such an inspiring garden ❤

Another abstract industrial riverscape with a bank card. These are great fun, quick and quite easy, and very much led by how the paint moves. No two would ever be the same.

Walks with Maisie have taken on a whole new crazy. This pup is not afraid of anything, she is crazy!
🤣 Relaxing day off, shopping in Galashiels, lunch in Innerleithen, a walk along the river and back through the woods opposite the cottage and house stuff. Good to have time to catch up and unwind.

Maisie has discovered there's a window
in the house she can see out of
