Home from holidays, Family time and walking off the blues

Saturday and after an easy journey home yesterday and all ok at home, we went to check the nursery, all good there too, thank goodness. Watered the tunnels and greenhouse, fed the fish and sorted a few bits and pieces. Home via food shopping, not a good idea when you have a sore head. Took myself off for a walk when we got home, up towards Minch Moor then cutting off and along the edge of the forestry towards Innerleithan, back through the Traquair estate to the car. The rain had cleared in the afternoon leaving some lovely late afternoon skies.

Great skies

Sunday and Some amazing skies driving to North Berwick to help Jamie and Natasha move some furniture. Then through to their new house to unload and catch up on what's happening including a family truck convention 😁Great to catch up with Ben too who's been helping them move, fix plumbing and all sorts ❤ family.

In between deep cleaning the house on Monday (just the kitchen to do) I walked up to Blake hill behind the house, then back down to Kirkhouse and back home - 10500 steps and sore legs 🙂 😕 There was not a breath of wind and so quiet, just me and the birds. It was lovely. Less of a sore head today after 2 days of feeling my head was in a screw tightening medieval torture implement. Soup and bread made for visitors lunch tomorrow too. Holidays? Just a different type of work.

Healthy lunches and dinners

Tuesday and another busy day, but I managed to fit in a walk from Peebles to the Viaduct, across to the other side of the Tweed and back along the north side. Bit of a dull day and some mizzle, but managed just over 8000 steps. Back home to get lunch ready for Daniel and Betty arriving. They brought Poppy cat home after her holiday with them while we were away. Not sure if she's pleased to be home or not 😆🤔 Lovely afternoon with Betty and Daniel, great to catch up

Wednesday and an afternoon in the nursery, catching up on a few wee tasks, doing some watering, potting my new succulents, lily bulbs for selling next year and catching up with Viki @ Junkshopantiques and getting all the gossip over a cup of tea and doggy cuddles from Blacky. I took a walk up the hill behind the nursery and I was rewarded by a beautiful sky at the end of the day. But that also means its going to be cold tonight, so need to make sure everything is tucked up, wrapped up and cosy against the frost.

I had a wee walk around the nursery gardens too, checking its all ok, here's a few plants that caught my eye, still giving colour and interest in late November, there are lots of plants that will give interest through winter with their colourful foliage and flowers.

We went down to Carrifran Wildwood for a walk on Thursday, making the most of a lovely afternoon before the bad weather comes in. Carrifran is very special as it was bought and planted up 21 years ago by the Borders Forest Trust to turn it back into a natural valley, regenerate the ecology and plant a million trees. They have now expanded to do the same at Gameshope. The difference with no grazing animals and to see native plants growing where they should is great. The ecology, archaeology and natural history of this place is interesting. You can read more about this great project here:
I also wanted to visit as I've been doing a lot of growing for the BFT at the nursery over the past few years. This has included bearberry, Salix cuttings harvested at Grey Mares Tail and Juniper communis grown from seed the BFT collected. These have all been successfully planted back into the Moffat Hills.

For one night only the healthy eating regime is cancelled as we're out at the annual David Dodd Associates Ltd survey team night out and I can't not have desserts or two or three..... hello sugar rush
