Our wee free library dedicated to gardening books |
Two years ago David created his latest pallet project - our Wee Free Garden Library! Made from pallets and other recycled bits and bobs he really made a fantastic job of it. It cost us nothing to make except David's time, made out of materials we had lying around. We love the concept of take a book, leave a book, being able to share, recycle, pass on books to other book lovers and having one especially for garden books made sense for the nursery. I donated some from my own collection and bought a few from a charity shop to get us started and since then the wee library has been self sustaining with very generous donations from customers who have either brought a book to swap or donated boxes of garden books to us. It really fits in well with our recycling and environmental awareness policies.
our wee library is always bursting with books |
There have been some really great books over the last two years, some of which I've borrowed to read myself. There are also journals from Edinburgh Botanic Gardens, the Hardy Plant Society and the Caley free to take away and enjoy - I can't bear to throw them out but will be glad if another gardener enjoys reading them.
For 2022 we have 3 boxes of fantastic books to unpack and add to our wee library, very kindly donated by one of our customers this autumn.
Life is perfect if you have a garden and books....... and chocolate and wine |
So it's quite simple;
Exchange - bring a garden book you no longer want and swap it for one in the wee library.
or
Donate - simply bring along gardening books you no longer want - great recycling!
or
Return - you don't have to swap or donate, you can borrow a book and bring it back once you've read it.
or
You can take a book and make a donation to out charity collection can. We collect For Breast Cancer Now in memory of my sister Mhairi who found Breast Cancer Now very supportive while she had breast cancer.
Recycling and raising money for charity and spreading the garden love |
