The end is in sight - a chance to chill

And suddenly it was October, the end of October indeed and time to shut up shop for the winter. We had lots of big plans for this year in the nursery, expansion on lots of different levels, new ideas, taking the business upwards and onwards. Then we had to close, having only been open for three weeks and like everyone else suddenly life became very uncertain. I thought it was going to be a very long year yet here we are at the end of the season. Like so many people it has been very difficult not being able to see our kids who are all away from home living independently. They all live in the central belt semi lock down area of Ayrshire, Glasgow, West Lothian and Edinburgh! We have missed seeing friends and family, being able to hug our loved ones and live life without restrictions. BUT I am so grateful they are all well and coping as well as they can. I can't ask for more.

An autumnal entrance to the nursery

As for the nursery, we were so lucky to be in the business we are in, for the weather during lock down to be amazing and for people to rediscover their gardens or find gardening for the first time. Our customers were amazing and so supportive. It's hard to find the words to say just how much that means to us. After Sunday we are going to relax a bit, do some of the things we love doing that we can but we wont be catching up with friends and family as we usually do when we are off and finally have time to socialise.

An autumn still life

WINTER HOURS
I can't believe its this time of year already!
The nursery will be closed for winter from Sunday 1st November and then open by appointment only from Monday 23rd November until Saturday 6th March 2021 when we re-open for the 2021 season.
If you wish to purchase plants or to ask advice, please email quercusgardenplants@gmail.com and we can arrange to be open.
This year more than ever David and I would like to say a huge thank you to all our customers for their support during this very stressful year, for your much appreciated support during lockdown and after, your custom, great reviews, positive feedback about what we are doing here at Quercus and sharing your enjoyment of the gardens and nursery, it's very much appreciated. We know we have been luckier than a lot of businesses and are very grateful for getting to this point and we couldn't have done it without you.
We have lots more exciting plans for the nursery and gardens in 2021 including more new and exciting plants on the stock list and 3, yes 3 new garden areas being planned as well as more wee features about the nursery and gardens. We hope to see you back to enjoy the next part of the Quercus nursery and gardens story. Lets hope 2021 is a better year for everyone ❤

When you have to up the tools to get a plant cut up for propagating 😃

It's a porridge kind if day

Bracken waiting in his to cool

Apparently there’s a problem with Bracken’s water bowl

Another autumn job is to cut off all the Gunnera leaves and use them to cover the crown for winter. This keeps the worst of the cold off the crown.

Behind the scenes - Its that time of year when I get the stocktake done in the nursery. It will take a bit longer this year as I've been propagating hundreds of new plants to replace what we sold out of this year and lots of new varieties from my own collection. Once the stocktake is complete I will update the database then I can do our entry for the RHS Plant Finder and update the plant lists on our website ready for starting again next year.

I'd like to say Bracken was helping with the stock take in the tunnel this morning, but I'm not sure

My favourite office mug has become the worse for wear, so beloved hubby decided to order me a new mug for the nursery ......

Toasting marshmallows in the comfort of indoors 😆🍁🍂🍁🔥🔥🔥

Another trip to the Kintyre Peninsula so David could do more work on Monday with a 5.30am alarm call! . A very mixed weather day, great for photos but not many views until we got to the estate and fortunately the heavy rain stopped while we were working. I walked Bracken, picnic in the car then the long road home but via the two ferries for a change, Tarbert to Portavadie and then Dunoon to Gourock shortened the journey. Glad of a long lie on Tuesday morning.

The last ferry

Everyone stay safe in these ever changing times.

Keep in touch on all our social media (see below) where I'll no doubt be blethering about gardens, plants and what ever else comes to mind there over the winter :)
